ActWidget
The accessibility widget for your website: adding it, what it does and fixing problems.
- What is ActWidget? ActWidget is an accessibility widget you add to your website. It lets visitors adjust the site to their needs and improves how it works with screen readers and keyboards.
- How does the ActWidget free trial work? The trial lasts 7 days and needs no credit card and no sign-up. Contact us and we install the code for you or send it to you.
- How do I add ActWidget to my website? ActWidget is one short piece of code added to your site. We can add it for you, or send it for you or your web developer to add.
- What can visitors do with ActWidget? Visitors open ActWidget from the accessibility button and adjust text, colour and navigation, or switch on a profile that applies a set of adjustments at once.
- What does ActWidget not do? ActWidget does not caption videos, fix PDFs or Word files, or override accessibility work already on your site, and no automated tool can guarantee full compliance.
- Does ActWidget slow down my site or change my code? No. ActWidget makes its changes in the visitor's browser, leaves your site's code untouched, and loads only after your page has finished loading.
- Why is ActWidget not showing on my site? The usual causes are a trial that has ended, code that is missing from the page, or an old copy of the page held by your browser or your website.
- Why does the ActWidget panel look wrong on my site? Broken lines, odd sizes or strange formatting in the ActWidget panel usually mean your site's styles are clashing with it. Contact us and we will fix it.
- Can I change how ActWidget looks on my site? Yes. The colour, position, size and shape of the button, the panel colour and language, and whether it shows on phones can all be set to suit your site.
- What are the ActWidget keyboard shortcuts? Four shortcuts control ActWidget without a mouse: Alt + 1, Alt + 8, Alt + 9 and Alt + 0 on Windows, or Option with the same numbers on a Mac.
- Which languages does ActWidget support? The ActWidget panel is available in more than 30 languages. Visitors pick theirs from the language menu at the top of the panel.
- Does ActWidget give my site an accessibility statement? Yes. An accessibility statement is built into ActWidget and opens from the panel. It describes the adjustments ActWidget makes to your site.
