What can visitors do with ActWidget?
Visitors open ActWidget from the accessibility button on your site. From there they can change how the site looks and behaves for them, or switch on a profile that applies several adjustments in one go. Their choices apply to their own visit only; nobody else sees your site differently.
Profiles
A profile is a ready-made set of adjustments for a particular need. Every setting in it can also be changed by hand.
| Profile | What it does |
|---|---|
| Vision impaired | Makes text larger, contrast stronger and spacing clearer |
| Blind users | Prepares pages for a screen reader |
| Motor impaired | Lets visitors reach everything with the Tab key and shortcuts, without a mouse |
| Seizure safe | Stops flashing and fast-moving content and tones colours down |
| Cognitive support | Highlights headings, links and buttons and dims distractions |
| Hearing impaired | Mutes sound, so nothing plays unexpectedly |
The Hearing impaired profile mutes sound. It does not add captions to videos. See What does ActWidget not do?
Individual adjustments
Visitors can also pick single adjustments.
- Content: text size, spacing between letters and lines, highlighted titles and links.
- Colour and display: contrast and colour changes.
- Navigation: a larger cursor, stopping animations, and tools that help with reading and moving around the page.
For screen reader and keyboard users
Behind the scenes ActWidget adds the labels and descriptions that screen readers need for menus, forms, buttons, pop-ups and images, and makes those elements usable from the keyboard. See What is ActWidget? and What are the ActWidget keyboard shortcuts?
