What does ActWidget not do?
ActWidget improves the accessibility of your website’s pages. It does not cover everything, and it is not a guarantee that your site meets every accessibility guideline.
What it does not cover
- Video captions. ActWidget does not caption videos. Its Hearing impaired profile mutes sound; it does not create subtitles or closed captions. Videos need captions adding where they are hosted or edited.
- PDFs and Word documents. Files you offer for download are not part of your web pages, so ActWidget cannot make them accessible.
- Accessibility work already on your site. ActWidget leaves existing image descriptions and other accessibility code alone. If that existing work is wrong, ActWidget will not correct it.
- Unusual components. It learns from elements it has seen on many websites. Common ones such as menus, dropdowns, pop-ups, forms, buttons, lists and galleries are handled well. Something custom-built and rare may not be.
Using it alongside other tools
If you add accessibility fixes yourself, or run another accessibility tool, check that the two do not conflict or override each other.
Compliance
ActWidget works towards better accessibility and deals with many common barriers. It does not guarantee that a website meets WCAG or any law, and no automated tool can. Whether a site fully meets a standard depends on the whole site. It is also not a replacement for accessible design. If your organisation has a legal duty to meet an accessibility standard, have the site tested by a person as well, including with a screen reader.
If something on your site is not being handled well, contact us and tell us which page.
