Pick a size and get the exact document size to set up, with bleed.
- What is bleed and how much do I need? Bleed is extra artwork that runs past the edge of the page so no white slivers show after trimming. Add 3mm on every side.
- What is the safe zone and how close to the edge can text go? The safe zone is the area inside the trim line where text and logos will not be cut. Keep important content 5mm in from the edge.
- Should my artwork be CMYK or RGB? Supply artwork in CMYK. Presses print with four inks, so RGB files are converted and bright screen colours can shift.
- What resolution does my artwork need to be? Images need to be 300dpi at the size they will print. Lower resolution looks soft or blocky on paper even if it looks fine on screen.
- What file type should I send my artwork in? Send a print-ready PDF: CMYK, 3mm bleed on all sides with crop marks, 300dpi images and fonts embedded or outlined.
- Do I need to embed or outline my fonts? Yes. Fonts must be embedded in the PDF or converted to outlines, or your text can change when the file is opened for print.
- What order should my booklet pages be in? Supply booklet pages as single pages in reading order. The cover can be in the same PDF or a separate file.
- How do I export a print-ready PDF from Canva, Adobe or Word? Steps for exporting a PDF with bleed, crop marks, embedded fonts and the right colour settings from Canva, InDesign, Illustrator and Word.
