What is ActWidget?
ActWidget is an accessibility widget from Printlogik that you add to your own website. It puts an accessibility button on every page, and it works in the background to make the site easier to use with a screen reader or a keyboard.
The two parts
The accessibility interface. Visitors open it from the button and adjust the site for themselves: larger text, more spacing, higher contrast, a bigger cursor, animations stopped. They can also switch on a ready-made profile, such as Seizure Safe or Vision Impaired, to apply a set of adjustments at once.
The background process. ActWidget scans your pages and adds the information that screen readers and keyboard users rely on, such as labels for buttons, menus, forms and pop-ups, and descriptions for images that have none. It scans again every 24 hours to pick up new content.
What it works towards
ActWidget’s adjustments are based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. It also includes an accessibility statement that visitors can open from the interface.
It improves accessibility, but no automated tool can promise that every page of every site meets every guideline. See What does ActWidget not do? for the limits.
