Which fold should I choose for my leaflet?
We offer half fold, roll fold (tri-fold), Z fold, gate fold, cross fold and double parallel fold. The right one depends on how many panels you need and how you want the reader to open it.
| Fold | Panels | How it opens | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half fold | 4 | Like a book | Menus, invitations, simple price lists |
| Roll fold (tri-fold) | 6 | Panels roll inside each other | Information read in order, the classic DL leaflet |
| Z fold | 6 | Opens out like a concertina | Maps, timelines, anything read across |
| Gate fold | 6 | Two outer panels open like doors | A reveal: a product launch or offer in the middle |
| Cross fold | 8 | Folded in half, then in half again | Large sheets folded down to pocket size |
| Double parallel fold | 8 | Folded in half, then in half again in the same direction | Longer content in a compact size |
A “panel” is one face of the folded sheet. A 6-panel leaflet has three panels on each side.
A few things to bear in mind
- Roll and gate folds need panels of slightly different widths so they close neatly. See Why is one panel of my folded leaflet narrower?
- Z folds use equal panels, so they are the easiest to set up.
- Heavier paper is creased before folding to stop it cracking. See What is the difference between creasing and folding?
The product page shows which folds each size and paper can take. If you are not sure which suits your content, contact us.
