Which paper can I write on?

Choose uncoated paper if anyone needs to write or stamp on your print. It takes pen, pencil and ink stamps easily. Silk will take a ballpoint. Gloss paper and laminated surfaces are difficult to write on.

Coated and laminated surfaces are sealed, so ink sits on top instead of soaking in. That is why it smears. A permanent marker will write on them, but an ordinary pen will struggle.

What this means for your order

  • Appointment cards and loyalty cards: uncoated. Our Uncoated Business Cards are one example. The product page is the authority on what we offer, because ranges change.
  • Forms, order pads and anything filled in by hand: uncoated.
  • Compliment slips and letterheads: uncoated.
  • Flyers with a small space to add a name or date: silk is usually fine with a ballpoint.
  • Vouchers that get stamped: uncoated.
